Our hurling team travelled to Martinstown on the 6th of June for the South final against Knocklong N.S. The boys had qualified for the final having beaten Ballylanders and Effin in a blitz in May. Dozens of supporters joined parents and staff on the sideline to cheer on the boys.
The match started off at a frantic pace with Knocklong getting an early goal. However great work from Knockainey left it all to play for at half time.
Knockainey started strongly in the second half with points from Fionnán Leahy, Josh Hartnett and a well taken goal from Joseph O’Meara. Knockainey’s defensive unit also played their part valiantly with some great defending by the boys. Some nervy moments followed as Knocklong scored a second goal but some excellent free taking from the reliable Liam Burke ensured it was to be Knockainey’s day.
Knocklong principal Pauline Taylor then presented the cup to team captain Fionnán Leahy amid great cheers from all our supporters. Massive congratulations to each and every one of our panel and our coach Mike Burke on a well – deserved win.
