Sole Mate walk and Ice Cream Van

This year our annual Sole Mate Walk was a huge success and the winning classroom was Ms. Foley’s First Class – a big bualadh bos to all 31 children in that classroom.

This year our Sole Mate Walk raised €2,132.60 – the generosity of our small community is just outstanding and very much appreciated.

From the funds raised from the Sole Mate Walk our children were treated to an Ice Cream Van in school last week, it also allows us to give the Sixth Class a send-off leaving Primary School – they all received a hoodie with the school crest on the front and class of 23 on the back signed by all 20 children – we wish these children the very best of luck as they embark on their next adventure in life.

We the Parent’s Association wish you all a lovely summer and once again thank you for your continued support throughout the year.

Jersey Day

Today at Knockainey National School we held a fundraising Jersey Day for Scott Coscoran who was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Scott only sat his Leaving Cert in June 2022 and was hoping to get an apprenticeship as an Electrician. Scott is an avid Limerick and Liverpool supporter and has played soccer, football and hurling with local clubs.

Scott’s family are trying to fundraise to make their home wheelchair accessible as well as get a car that is also wheelchair accessible as he is unable to walk and they are anxious to bring him home to care for him.

We are delighted to present Scott with €540 collected from pupils, staff and parent bodies. Best of Luck Scott, from all at KNS.

Grandparent’s Day

On Friday 3rd of February 2023 we celebrated Grandparent’s Day as part of Catholic Schools week.

Mass was held in Knockainey Church at 11am. We had the most beautiful ceremony to celebrate our Grandparents. Each class from the school attended the church where we performed tin whistle led by Ms. Morris, Ukulele led by Fran Stone and congregational singing which filled the church with love. We thank Ms. Foley for preparing the choir for this.

Throughout the week, each child worked on ‘Memory Frames’ to present to their grandparents. We reflected on fond memories each child has of their Grandparents. We also understand that this is a difficult time for all who are remembering those whom they have lost, yet nice to cherish the memories.

Following Mass everyone was invited back to the school for some light refreshments. This gave an opportunity for our Grandparents to have a look around the school whilst reminiscing on many memories that they have have here themselves.

The Grandparents Garden was a popular spot for selfies and family photos. A picture that each family will cherish to have. We thank all those who attended and took part.

Parents Association Sole-Mate Walk

Today we had our annual sole-mate walk challenge which was organised by our Parents Association. This year €1966.50 was raised. Thanks to all for donating and taking part. This money will go towards the end of primary school gift for the sixth class and for subsidising school tours.

Ms. Morris’s First and Second class were announced as the winners with 180 points. Ms. Buckley’s class was second and Mr. Cleary/Ms. Conway’s class were joint third.

The children really enjoyed the day. All receiving and ice cream at the finishing line. Thanks to all for making this a great event.

Soul Mates Winners

Lá Glas/ Rock your socks day :)

On Wednesday 16th of March we had our annual St. Patrick’s Accessory Day at Knockainey National School – each child wore a green accessory with their uniform.

In conjunction to wearing green we had Rock Your Socks for Down Syndrome Day which is the 21st of March.

We are all very fortunate here at Knockainey National School to have our own mini celebrity, Padraig O’ Callaghan, in our school.

Padraig helps to raise awareness for Down Syndrome Ireland through his Paudcasts on a regular basis. Each child wore two odd socks for this.

We were thrilled with the effort made by everyone! See photos of the classes below 🙂

HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY TO YOU ALL!
